Welcoming Fear as a Friend

August 9 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Affirmation: I face fear with fierce clarity and unwavering presence.

Reading:

“Adapted from “Welcoming Fear as a Friend” by Gerald May

The basic lesson is this: Fear is not an enemy but a friend. Fear is something good, something alive, alert, and wild in us. Fear may be a response to danger, bur fear itself is not dangerous. On the contrary, It is nothing other than life-spirit standing on its toes right here, right now with clear attention, sharp senses, ready body, flared nostrils, bristled hair, poised muscles, pumping heart, clean breath.

…When fear does come…let us neither tighten ourselves against what we’re feeling, nor become paralyzed by it, but let us live into the bright, sane responsiveness that fear makes possible. Let us welcome fear for the friend it is, for what it teaches and how it serves. When we feel the hairs on the back of our neck bristling for no reason, when we sense an unexplainable tremulousness, never again deny it or call it neurotic. Instead, welcome it, go into it, see what it is trying to show us.

Spiritual point of view:
Fear isn’t something you need to fight or get rid of—it’s something you’re being invited to understand. When you look at the teachings of spiritual masters like Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, and Charles Fillmore together, a compassionate pattern begins to emerge.

Chopra reminds you that fear shows up when you forget who you really are. When you identify only with your ego—the part of you that feels small, separate, and in survival mode—fear makes sense. As you return to presence, stillness, and higher awareness, fear naturally softens because you remember your true Self.

Wayne Dyer would tell you that fear is largely a habit of thought. You’re not powerless here. You can notice the inner dialogue that keeps rehearsing worst-case scenarios and gently choose a new story—one rooted in intention, love, and possibility.

Charles Fillmore adds that fear is spiritual power misdirected. The same faith and imagination meant to create good are simply pointed in the wrong direction. When you realign them with divine truth, fear loses its authority.

From an Abraham Hicks perspective, fear is an indicator that you’re out of alignment with your Inner Being. You don’t fix it by force—you soothe it by reaching for better-feeling thoughts. As you align with who you truly are, fear naturally gives way to clarity, ease, and trust.
