December – Sticking the Landing
Monthly Theme Summary: At the end of a gymnastics performance, after all the spins and twirls, the gymnast must land upright on their feet. At the end of this year, having explored “I am Dawning”, you land on your feet, grounded in timeless principles. you’ll use both elements (air, fire, water, earth and light) and the flow of consciousness (thought, feeling, form, wisdom, Spirit) to wrap up this year and prepare for the next.
12.1 Standing on Solid Air
First Sunday of Advent- Hope/Faith
Most Christians focus on hope during the first week of Advent. In Unity, perhaps inspired by the view that “faith is the assurance of things hoped for,” we contemplate both hope and faith as we spiritually prepare our hearts and minds for Christmas …
Think of it as a hope-faith continuum. Hope arises when we glimpse a new possibility. These glimpses can inspire us to make positive changes. They can motivate us to adopt new ways of thinking and behaving …
I stand on solid thoughts to co-direct the flow of my life. Life isn’t as solid as you’re conditioned to believe it is. Life is a constant flow – but you get to surf on and even direct that flow in your lives.
Today’s Topic: Everything is created twice – first in mind, then in form. Our thinking and our beliefs have a powerful influence on our lives. Emma Curtis Hopkins declared “There is no matter” as her second denial. While we might disagree based on today’s scientific wisdom, we do recognize that matter is an emanation of Spirit. The quantum physicist will tell us that things are nowhere near as solid as we perceive them to be. What we call thought and form are both, ultimately, energy, being shaped by conscious expectation and perception. Thus, we begin with the Principles of Unity, as the “solid air (thought)” upon which we stand.
Mind: 1. God is absolute good, everywhere present. 2. Human beings have a spark of divinity within them, the Christ spirit within. Their very essence is of God, and therefore they are also inherently good.
Idea: 3. Human beings create their experiences by the activity of their thinking. Everything in the manifest realm has its beginning in thought. 4. Prayer is creative thinking that heightens the connection with God-Mind and therefore brings forth wisdom, healing, prosperity, and everything good.
Expression: 5. Knowing and understanding the laws of life, also called Truth, are not enough. A person must also live the truth that he or she knows.
12.8 Angel Service-
Remembering Loved Ones Past and Present
Hearts Ablaze
Second week of Advent – Peace
“All manifestations of life originate in the Silence,” the Society of Silent Unity wrote in Unity, Vol. 17 (Unity Tract Society, 1902). “The thoughts that rise in you and come to the surface in deed and act, are they not from the Silence?” …
I let the fire of Infinite Love blaze in my heart!
You are feeling creatures who think. As you allow the fire of Love, the fire of Spirit to move us, you rise to new levels of joy, love, and alignment with Spirit.
12.15 Flowing Ground
Third Sunday of Advent – Love
Jesus taught that we should love everyone: black, brown, or white; rich or poor; cool or nerdy; gay, straight, or questioning; or any political affiliation.
There is an incredible sense of power and freedom in both giving and receiving love without condition or expectation. The experience can be so profound that we lose track of whether we’re the giver or receiver …
“Love is who we are, and no season can contain it,” Sara Bareilles affirms in her evocative song “Love Is Christmas.” It’s true about each of us, and everyone else too.
—Excerpt by Rev. Kurt Condra
I swim in the flow of Consciousness, sowing Good wherever I go.
“Permanence is but a word of degrees. your globe seen by God is a transparent law, not a mass of facts. The law dissolves the fact and holds it fluid.” (Emerson) Today you ask what “solid facts” you want to make more fluid, aligned with a higher Good.
Today’s Topic: We think of our world as solid, but ee can learn to flow with liquid law and not be stopped by appearances of solidity. It takes a shift of consciousness and a grounding in Truth Principles to look “solid facts” in the eye and say, “You are not so real after all!” Just as we have come to understand that thoughts are things, we also become aware that things are thoughts in form. Change the thoughts, change the things.
12.22 Candle-Lighting-The Incredible Light of Being
Fourth Sunday of Advent- Joy
When we light the Advent candle for joy, we remind ourselves of the spiritual truth of this season: “Unto us a child is born.”
In telling the Christmas story, the Gospel writers remind us that when things seem darkest, joy can come in unexpected places and small packages.
In the presence of such joy, our inner child can awaken our Christ nature and then the Messiah is truly born.
I am the Light embodied. I radiate! This is the darkest time of year in the northern hemisphere. So, of course, you celebrate light! you walk “guided by the illumination of remembered radiance.”
12.29 Burning Bowl Releasing Ceremony- Expanding at the Top
I create exciting new ways to experience and express Spirit. I say YES! to Life.
There is a difference between hearing that you are “open at the top” and expanding into that opening. As you complete this year of Dawning, what is arising through us?
